NMMA 2026 Finalists: 3 Nominations!

Music in the air! Finalists for the 39th New Mexico Music Awards were announced over the weekend and three of my artist client projects received nominations!

I am especially honored to shine the spotlight on these amazing artists who entrusted me with producing, recording and mixing their personal projects during the past year. Fantastic performances by some of the finest musicians in New Mexico helped bring these tunes to life, and one and all deserve accolades for their rich and beautiful artistry.

First Grandma…now Grampa? “Grampa Got Stepped On By A Sasquatch” by Ron Whitmore earned a nod for best song in the “Seasonal” category. I had the privilege and fun of producing this parody Christmas song with my friend and comic singer-songwriter extraordinaire. Dave Garner contributed his musical and graphic talents and Derek Fisher added lively harmony.

Songs for sinners, lovers and beautiful mistakes! The title track of the remarkable debut album by Mike Chastaine, “Here in Santa Fe” earned a nod for best song in the “New Mexico Song” category. My singer-songwriter friend is an insightful storyteller! Lauren Wood Adair and Martin Adair joined in with great vocals and Martin’s octave mandolin really elevated the song alongside Ron Whitmore’s fine piano parts. Jon Gold of Gold Mine Audio & Mastering added a fine polish in the mastering stage, too.

We’re on a roll!! The newest song by Marc and Paula’s Roadside Distraction, “Theory About You” earned a nod for myself as “Best Recording Engineer” once again. Their rich creativity weaves throughout this gem. Venerable friends shared their hallmark musicianship all around, including Michael Burt on bass, Michael Kott, the Cello Player, James Raymond on keys, and Paul Pearcy on percussion. Big John Treadwell and Jason Reed always make everything first class at Frogville Studios and Jono Manson always delivers the finest touch at The Kitchenette.

One of the joys of working in this profession is creating great music with wonderful people. Creating that music is about sharing individual expression and common experience. We do not seek awards, but recognition for our work and sacrifice is affirming and encouraging all around, especially in this stellar community.

I am grateful to NMMA for this recognition and I look forward to celebrating alongside the other nominees at the awards ceremony! Congratulations to all the finalists!
